This child-size sweater was knitted using a pattern for a plain pullover. The variations were made up by the knitter (Judy Barth), who happens to be the teacher of our upcoming class, Top-Down Sweater with Variations (Mondays, Dec 1, 8, 15 from 6:30 - 8:30pm). In this example, Judy used a slightly different gauge yarn (Hayfield Aran with Wool), changed the plain stockinette to a seeded rib, worked a narrow rib at hems, and made a ribbed crew neck instead of the rolled turtleneck in the pattern.
You can make your own changes to a basic pattern; it's not as difficult as it might seem!
In this example, Judy used Cascade 220 Superwash, and changed the stitches on the sleeves as well as the body, and made 3 buttonholes instead of 4. This adorable sweater was sold in the shop almost immediately upon arrival.
